Quick and Easy Midnight Cake

1 (18.25 to 18.5-ounce) devil's food cake mix
4 cans (5-ounces each) ready-to-eat chocolate pudding
1/3 pint stawberries
1 small banana

Prepare devil's food cake mix as label directs for two 9-inch cake layers.

Cool cake in pans on wire racks 10 minutes; remove cake from pans and cool completely.

Place 1 cake layer, rounded side up, on cake plate. With serrated knife, held parallel to cake layer, thinly slice off rounded top to make the cake top even. Crumble the removed thin cake slice and reserve for garnish.

Spread 2 cans chocolate pudding evenly over cake layer on plate. Thinly slice strawberries and banana;arrange fruit over pudding layer. Top with second cake layer. Spread top layer with remaining 2 cans pudding.

Sprinkle reserved cake crumbs over purdding to create a speckled appearance.

Makes 12 servings
