TONETTA'S EASY OVEN MEATBALLS
2 quarts favorite sauce, homemade or jarred, divided use FOR THE MEATBALLS:
2 lbs. ground beef (may substitute some of the beef with ground pork) 3 slices bread, moistened lightly with water 1 cup unseasoned bread crumbs 1 cup chopped onion 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese (plus more for topping, if desired) 5 large eggs 3 tsp. salt 2 tsp. granulated garlic 1 tsp. each dried oregano, basil, thyme 1/2 tsp. pepper
TO SERVE: hot cooked pasta or sub rolls
Preheat oven to 325 degrees F.
Pour half of sauce into a 13x9-inch glass baking dish.
Combine all the ingredients for the meatballs, mixing well with hands. Form meat into 1 to 2 inch balls. Add meatballs to the baking dish in one layer.
Top with remaining sauce. Sprinkle with more grated Parmesan cheese if desired. Cover with aluminum foil.
Bake in preheated 325 degree oven for 1 to 1 1/2 hours, depending on size of meatballs.
Serve with your favorite pasta. Add a salad and garlic bread for satisfying meal. These make great sub sandwiches topped with provolone or mozarella cheese and heated in the microwave. |
