ITALIAN CASSEROLE
1 1/2 lbs. ground beef 1 (32 oz) jar spaghetti sauce 1/3 cup water 1 1/2 tsp. salt 1 tsp. basil 1 tsp. oregano leaves 1 tsp. sugar 1/4 tsp. pepper 5 medium potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced 8 oz. shredded mozzarella cheese (for topping)*
Brown ground beef and drain.
Add spaghetti sauce, water, salt, basil, oregano, sugar, and pepper. Cook two minutes more.
In a baking dish or crockpot, evenly spoon 1/3 meat mixture, arrange 1/2 of potatoes on top. Repeat layers, ending with meat mixture. Repeat layers, ending with meat mixture. Cover dish tightly with foil (if using oven).
Bake at 375F for 1 hour or cook on low in crockpot all day or until potatoes are tender.
Remove foil, sprinkle mixture evenly with Mozzarella cheese, bake 10 minutes more, or until cheese melts.
*CROCKPOT NOTE: You can add the cheese towards the end, or you can put the cheese in at the same time as the rest of the food. |
