BAVARIAN CHRISTMAS BREADMakes 1 (1 1/2 pound) loaf 3/4 cup milk 1/4 cup water 2 tablespoons margarine or butter, cut up 1 tablespoon kirsch or milk 3 cups bread flour 2 tablespoons sugar 3/4 teaspoon salt 1/2 teaspoon ground mace 1/4 teaspoon ground cardamom 1 teaspoon active dry yeast (or bread machine yeast) 1/2 cup snipped pitted prunes (or dark raisins) 1/3 cup chopped hazelnuts FOR THE POWDERED SUGAR ICING: (optional) 2/3 cup sifted powdered sugar 1/2 teaspoon vanilla 2 to 3 teaspoons milk Add the ingredients for the bread to the bread machine pan according to manufacturer's directions for a 1 1/2-pound loaf. Select the basic white bread cycle. TO MAKE THE POWDERED SUGAR ICING:In a small mixing bowl stir together powdered sugar and vanilla.
