CARDAMOM SHORTBREAD STARS

1 tablespoon cardamom seeds
1 1/4 cups flour
1/3 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup (1 stick) chilled unsalted butter, cut into pieces
Powdered sugar (for dusting)

Place cardamom seeds in spice grinder and grind finely.

In processor or electric mixer, combine flour, granulated sugar, butter and cardamom. Process or mix until it forms fine crumbs. Pat dough together and knead it on lightly floured surface until it forms a ball. Wrap in plastic and chill 30 minutes or until firm.

WHEN READY TO BAKE:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Have ungreased baking sheet ready.

On lightly floured surface, roll out dough about 3/16 inch thick. With 2-inch star cutter, cut out cookies and transfer to baking sheet, spacing them 1 inch apart.

Bake cookies 12 to 15 minutes, or until bottoms are golden. Cool slightly on racks.

While cookies are still barely warm, dust with powdered sugar shaken through a sieve. Let cool completely.

Store between sheets of waxed paper in airtight container up to 2 weeks.

Makes about 22 cookies
