WILLIAMSBURG CINNAMON SQUARES

1 cup butter, softened
1 cup sugar
1 egg, separated
2 cups flour, sifted
1 1/2 tablespoons cinnamon
1 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 cups nuts, chopped

Preheat oven to 325 degrees F. Grease and flour a 15 1/2x10 1/2x1 inch pan.

Cream the butter and sugar. Add the egg yolk and sifted dry ingredients. Press the batter into the prepared pan; set aside.

Beat the egg white until foamy and spread it sparingly over the batter. Press on the nuts.

Bake at 325 degrees for 30 minutes. Cut into squares.

Makes 48 squares
