First, thank you so much for posting this recipe. I lost my copy, and I've been looking for it for several years. These are delicious. They are like a cardamon-flavored, not-too-sweet shortbread.

Here's an illustration of how to cut out these cookies:

Then, gently fan the cookie out so the vertical cuts are angled and there are gaps between the dough "antlers."
