BBQ BURGERSFOR THE BURGERS:1 1/2 pounds lean ground beef
1/2 cup bread crumbs
1/2 cup chopped onion
1 egg
1/4 of an 8 oz. can Hunt’s Tomato Sauce with Mushrooms, divided use
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
shredded cheese
FOR THE BBQ SAUCE:1/4 teaspoon chili powder
1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
2 teaspoons sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
Combine ground beef, bread crumbs, onion, egg, 1/4 of the 8 oz. can Hunt’s Tomato Sauce, 1 tsp. salt and 1/4 tsp. pepper.
Shape into 12 flat patties; top 6 patties with shredded cheese; cover with remaining patties. Press edges of patties together.
To make the BBQ sauce, combine remaining 3/4 can Hunt’s Tomato Sauce combined with chili powder, Worcestershire, sugar and 1/4 tsp. salt.
Grill burgers over hot coals or cook in skillet, basting with the sauce.
Serve remaining sauce over burgers (boil for a few minutes if the brush that touched raw meat was dipped in the sauce).
