CHINESE HOMESTYLE GRAVY

"A rich, sweet, tangy, dark brown gravy or sauce."

1 cup soy sauce
1 (16 oz) can chicken broth
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup hoisin
3 tbsp sherry or sake
1 cup water
1/8 tsp white pepper
1 tsp minced fresh ginger
3 chopped green onions
1/2 tsp ajinomoto (MSG) (optional)
FOR THE CORNSTARCH SLURRY:
3 tbsp corn starch mixed with 1/3 cup cold water

Combine ingredients in a saucepan and thicken with cornstarch slurry.

Use for noodles or eggs fu yung.
