FLAKY BISCUITS WITH VARIATIONS
2 cups unsifted flour
3 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup Mazola corn oil
2/3 cup milk
In mixing bowl stir together flour, baking powder and salt. Stir in corn oil with fork or pastry blender. Add milk; mix until dough forms.
Gently knead on lightly floured surface 15 to 20 times. Roll out or pat to 1/2-inch thickness. Cut with floured 2-inch biscuit cutter. Place on ungreased cookie sheet.
Bake in 450 degree F oven 12 to 15 minutes or until lightly browned.
Serve with Mazola margarine, if desired.
VARIATIONS:
FOR SOFT BISCUITS:
Arrange on cookie sheet with sides touching. For crusty biscuits, place well apart.
BUTTERMILK BISCUITS:
Add 1/4 teaspoon baking soda to dry ingredients and use buttermilk.
CHEESE BISCUITS:
Add 1/2 cup grated cheese to dry ingredients.
CHIVE BISCUITS:
Add 2 tablespoons chopped chives to dry ingredients.
Makes 12 biscuits
