BEANS ALA CHARRA (ALSO CALLED DRUNKEN BEANS)

A friend of mine always used to make these beans whenever he would invite people over - Him being from Texas these beans were a GREAT addition to my Michigan cookbook. This recipe smells so good when it begins to cook.

16 oz. dry pinto beans
water
1 large onion diced
2 cloves garlic, chopped
2 Jalapeņo peppers diced
1 Poblano pepper diced
1 (16 oz.) pkg. THICK bacon cut into 1-inch pieces
1 package of hot dogs cut into small pieces
1/2 cup cut up cilantro leaves
2 packets of Sazon Goya con culantro y achitoe -or- Knorr Sazon (same thing different brands)
Salt & pepper to taste

Prep:
Place pintos in water overnight (at least 8 hours)

Next day:
Rinse beans well and place into pot of water (about 3 liters of water) and bring to boil for about an hour. NOTE: the water will boil down so you will need to add more as it cooks.

Add the onion, garlic, Sazon, cilantro, garlic, bacon and peppers. Let cook - add hotdogs half hour before the beans are really tender.

Happy Bean cooking :)
