PINEAPPLE SWEET AND SOUR PORK
"Chinese restaurant favorite, authentic flavor."
1 (13 1/4 ounce) can pineapple chunks 1 pound lean pork, cut in 3/4-inch squares 1 egg, slightly beaten 1 cup flour 1/2 teaspoon monosodium glutamate (optional) 1/2 teaspoon salt 2 to 4 tablespoons oil 2 teaspoons soy sauce 1/2 cup honey 1/3 cup pineapple syrup 1/4 cup catsup 1/2 cup vinegar 2 tablespoons cornstarch 2 tablespoons water 1 medium green pepper, cut in thin strips Cooked rice or crisp noodles (for serving)
Drain pineapple chunks and reserve syrup.
Dip pork cubes into beaten egg and then in flour which has been mixed with monosodium glutamate and salt. Cook in hot oil about 5 minutes or until crispy on all sides. Remove from pan and keep warm.
Place soy sauce, honey, pineapple syrup, catsup and vinegar in pan. Bring to boil.
Mix cornstarch with water to form a smooth paste and add, stirring constantly. Cook until thickened.
Add the cooked pork, pineapple chunks and green pepper strips. Simmer 5 minutes.
Serve very hot over steamed white rice or crisp noodles.
