CABBAGE AND APPLES GERMAN STYLE
2 tablespoons butter 1/3 cup finely chopped onion 2 tablespoons sugar 6 cups shredded red cabbage 1/2 cup red wine vinegar 2 teaspoons salt 1 cup diced cooking apple (approx. 1 large apple) 2 tablespoons sugar 1 1/2 cups dairy sour cream, at room temperature Apple slices (optional, for garnish)
In skillet melt butter; saute onion with 2 tablespoons sugar 5 minutes.
Stir in cabbage, vinegar and salt; cover and simmer 10 minutes.
Add apple and 2 tablespoons sugar; cover and cook about 5 minutes.
Transfer to heated platter; spoon sour cream over center of cabbage. Garnish with apple slices, if desired.
