HERBED GREEN BEANS WITH GARLIC

1 lb green beans
2 tsp butter or oil
1 small onion, thinly sliced
1 cloves garlic, finely chopped
1 tbsp chopped fresh thyme or oregano
salt and freshly ground pepper (to taste)

Trim beans and cook in rapidly boiling water for 4 to 5 minutes or until tender-crisp. Drain.

In heavy skillet or saucepan, melt butter; add onion and garlic and cook over medium-low heat, stirring occasionally, until onion is tender.

Stir in beans, thyme and salt and pepper to taste. Cook until heated.

Makes 4 servings
