CHINESE HONEY GARLIC CHICKEN WINGS
3 lbs. chicken wings 1/2 cup soy sauce 1/2 cup honey 1/4 cup lemon juice 1/4 cup water 3 tbls. ketchup 2 cloves garlic, minced 1 tsp. gingerroot, minced 1 tsp. sesame oil 1 tsp. five-spice powder 2 tbls. cooking sherry 1 tbl. black sesame seeds 1 tsp. salt 1/2 tsp. black pepper 1/2 cup basil leaves, coarsely chopped
Rinse chicken wings and pat dry; set aside.
In a large bowl, combine soy sauce, honey, lemon juice, water, ketchup, garlic, ginger, sesame oil, five-spice powder, cooking sherry, sesame seeds, salt and pepper. Stir to mix.
Add chicken wings to bowl; cover and allow to marinate in refrigerator 2 hours or up to overnight.
WHEN READY TO COOK:* Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
Remove wings from marinade and place in single layer on roasting pan or cookie sheet.
Place in oven and roast for 30 minutes. Turn wings; spoon some additional marinade over wings. Discard remaining marinade. Return wings to oven and cook additional 20 minutes.
Serve immediately, sprinkled with chopped basil leaves.
*Wings could also be grilled, about 7-8 minutes per side, brushing with marinade after turning.
