Hi Merry ! How have you been? i'm sorry that I haven't replied for so long, but I've been real busy at work ( I'm a caterer and manage a coffee shop ). ANYWAYS...It looks like we aren't related...but cool thought anyway,huh?? I'm an only child ( no sister) divorced...but I do have four children...ages 16.. 13..11..5..But sometimes i do wish they were all grown up..just sometimes.hahaha...I found a recipe for five bean salad in my Southern Living cookbook. Will this help?
Five-Bean Salad
8 slices bacon 2/3 cup sugar 2 TBSP.cornstarch 1/4 tsp. salt 1/8 tsp. pepper 3/4 cup vinegar 1/2 cup water 1-15 oz. can red kidney beans,rinsed and drained 1-16 oz. can cut green beans,drained 1-16 oz. can lima beans,drained 1-16 oz. can wax beans,drained 1-15 oz. can garbanzo beans ( chick peas) drained 1 small onion,sliced thin and separated into rings
Cook bacon in dutch oven until crisp ; drain well, reserving 1/4 cup drippings in pot. Crumble bacon and set aside. Add sugar,cornstarch,salt and pepper to drippings in pot ; stir until smooth.Gradually add vinegar and water; cook over medium heat,stirring constantly, until thickened and bubbly. Add beans to pot; cover and simmer 15 minutes. Add onion,tossing gently.Spoon salad into serving dish..sprinkle with crumbled bacon. Serve immediately. 10-12 servings.
