BG,

I haven't reied this myself. Just my mom so I can't say it's "tried"... Have a go. If it's not the one you are looking for, sorry... There are variation from this basic recipe, such as thousand island... If this is THE ONE, then I will ask for the variation for you (if you want them...)

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Basic Salad Sauce:
The amount is enough for 4 -6 servings

1. 1 egg yolk
1 t. mustard powder or sauce
1 t. each: salt, sugar
3/4 C oil (Mom used to use peanut oil/vegetable oil. But now she is only using olive oil as she is very much into healthy cooking....)
1 T. Japanese rice vinegar (the one you use when making sushi or apple cider vinegar -- Heinz has a good one.)

Put (1) in a bowl. Gradually add and stir oil into (1) with a whisk. Do not add too much oil at a time. If sauce becomes hard, add a little vinegar to soften it. Continue adding and stirring oil and vinegar to (1) until they are mixed well.
