I was baby sitting for a pair of Australian children once, and made the mistake of asking the little girl if she needed to "go potty before bed", not an unusual way to ask an American child if they need to use the toilet. She said no, but insisted on showing me her "potty dress". It took me a good five minutes to figure it out: PAH-tee (party) dress!! Ohhhhh...

Moral: always find the critical words BEFORE the parents leave!
