This is a family favorite, it is a recipe from my grandmother. It is a very dense chocolate cake, too heavy to layer. We like it best with buttercream frosting. I like to use chocobake, pre-melted chocolate packets instead of cocoa, I think it makes a moister cake. To make an ice cream cone I would triple the recipe amd make an 8 or 9" round cake and a 9x13" rectangle. Cut 1/3 off the round and cut a cone shape from the rectangle. Put the two together and you have an ice cream cone! Chocolate Cake makes one 8" cake 1 1/2 cup flour 1 cup sugar 3 TBS cocoa powder (or one square/package unsweetened chocolate) 1 tsp baking soda 1/2 tsp salt 6 TBS vegetable oil 1 tsp vinegar 1 tsp vanilla 1 cup cold water Mix dry ingredients together, add wet ingredients, beat well with hand mixer. Bake 30 minutes at 350 degrees, 45-50 minutes for double recipe.
