In response to your question about your special cake, what we do is make the cake as the Birthday boy or girl's age.

On a piece of cardboard or stiff poster board draw a large number for the age of your child, then cut it out. Bake a sheet cake, let your cake cool, then lay the number on top of the cake and cut along the sides. After you're done, decorate as you please.

This is good for all ages and when they reach 10 it is exciting for them to see the double digits.
