When making trifle for childrem flavoured lemonade (soda pop)is used.For adults you could try various fruit juices - pineapple or orange being the most popular or
my sister always pours in liquid jelly (JellO) in orange or raspberry floured, this soaks into the cake and doesn't set rock=hard giving the cake the mositness it needs.
