I found this recipe in a "down home" type cookbook and skeptically tried it out of sheer desperation for a recipe like you're asking for. It may sound weird, but please try it! It's so easy, it's almost sinful. My husband begs me for it now at home. Here goes:
Chicken-fried steak
1 to 1.5 lbs cubed steak (store bought or "home cubed")
2 bags (1/2 box) of saltine crackers crushed pretty finely
2 tsp. pepper
2 eggs, beaten (add 1 tbsp milk)
Cooking oil
Mix crackers and pepper in a plate. Dip steak into egg mixture and then coat well with crushed cracker mixture. Fry in nonstick skillet with about 2 TBSP cooking oil (heated) for 6 minutes on 1 side and then 4 minutes on the other. All your steak won't fit in one pan, so you will have to add more oil for each set of steaks you fry up. Sometimes you may need more during the frying process too.

For the gravy, I've tried many homemade ones and find that I like the McCormick Country gravy powder mix the best; all you do is add water and cook. It also has much less fat and calories than homemade.
Let me know how this goes.
