Dear Johanna,
In response to your non-stupid question, the answer is yes. There are these little electric "doughnut irons" that you bake regular cake batter in. You put cake batter into the doughnut-shaped molds, close the machine over them and the batter bakes. When your done (in a few minutes)you have 6 little cakey doughnuts complete with a hole, about 2 inches in diameter. I'm not sure who makes these doughnut machines but I'm pretty sure there's one on the market right now. Check out your local department store or kitchen supply stores. My husband's grandmother makes these and they're quite tasty.
