Here's the recipe that was posted by Mrs. Food:
Everybody: I was reading my Reminsce Magazine (fabulous magazine) and in it they place all kinds of things about the 30's, 40's, 50's, etc. They have a section that has old pictures of advertising. In a recent magazine they placed a picture of an old Kool-aid aid placed in 1949. On it had a recipe for a "treat" that Mom's could make their children. Everybody wrote in about how they remembered that treat and made it again for ole' times sakes. I decided to make it with my daughter and it was really good. It is a combination between sorbet and ice cream. I bet back then this was a real treat. You can make it with any flavor of kool-aid and we opted for strawberry-kiwi. Here is the recipe if anyone is interested in trying it out. I thought of you Grandmother's with grandchildren coming to visit.
1 cup of sugar 1 pkg. of kool-aid 2 cups milk 1 cup whipping cream
In a bowl, combine the sugar, kool-aid and milk; stir until the sugar and kool-aid are dissolved. Pour into a freezer containter. Freeze for one hour or until slushy. In a mixing bowl, beat cream until stiff. Add kool-aid mixture; mix just until combined. Return to the freezer container. Freeze until solid, about 2 hours.
(I added more time to each of the freezing times because I felt it took loinger to get to the desired consistency.)
Enjoy, Mrs. Food
