WALNUT TORTE
1/2 c. chopped walnuts 10 soda crackers (crumbs) 3 egg whites, stiffly beaten 1 c. sugar 1 tsp. vanilla 1 tsp. vinegar 1 tsp. baking powder 1 pt. whipping cream 1 can cherry pie filling (optional)
Take beaten egg whites, gradually beat in sugar. Fold in soda crackers, vanilla, vinegar, baking powder and nuts. Pour in well greased pie tin. Pat down smooth. Make sides thicker than middle, like pie shell. Bake at 350 degrees for 35 to 40 minutes. Cool. Fill with whipped cream; let stand for 2 hours in refrigerator. Good with cherry pie filling spooned over top.
