SPICED NUTS
2 egg whites 1/4 c. cold water 1 c. sugar 1/2 c. cornstarch 1/4 tsp. salt 1 tsp. cinnamon 1 tsp. allspice 1 tsp. nutmeg 1 1/2 lb. assorted nutmeats (pecans, walnuts, etc.)
Combine egg whites with water; beat lightly. Sift sugar, salt, cornstarch and spices together; stir. Add nuts, mixing well. Spread on bottom of large shallow baking pan.
Bake at 250 degrees for 1 1/2 hours, turning nuts every 10 to 15 minutes to insure even crispness. Cool thoroughly before storing in sealed containers. Nice for Christmas nibbles; these Spiced Nuts also make a nifty gift from your kitchen.
