Here's our family's versions of Cocktail Sauce and Tartar Sauce:
Cocktail Sauce
1 cup tomato catsup (Del Monte)
2 Tablespoons white vinegar
1 Tablespoon horseradish
1 teaspoon lemon juice
1 teaspoon Worcestershire Sauce
Few drops Tabasco Sauce
Mix and chill. Best if chilled several hours or overnight.
Tartar Sauce
1 quart Blue Plate mayo
1 pint dill pickle
1 large onion
1/2 tsp garlic salt
Put pickle and onion in food chopper and chop to fine pieces. Put all ingredients in bowl and mix thoroughly with mixer.
For a butter sauce to dip shellfish into, we use the following:
Melt 1 stick of margarine. Add about 2 teaspoons chopped garlic (more if you like) and about 1 1/2 teaspoons brown sugar. We just kept mixing this combination until we got the taste we were searching for.
