I have not used any thing from an air popper,for Kettle corn,but for popping over your stove I have one.
Use a non stick 4 qt pot or so.
Add Vegtable oil,covering the bottom of the pot. Heat oil(med-high).Add a couple kernels of popcorn to the oil & when they look like there starting to bubble in the oil,add enough kernels to cover the bottom of your pot.Then add a couple tablespoons of sugar to this mixture,stir quickly & cover.Shake the pot back & fourth over the burner,until popping starts.The popcorn is done when only a few kernels pop every couple of seconds.Take off the heat & take off the top slowly.This can burn you so be carefull.Pour into large bowl & enjoy.Remember Sugar can burn,so don't over cook this popcorn or it will be burntcorn,not good.
