GOLDEN STEAK FINGERS
1 pound boneless beef top round steak,* cut 1/2 to 3/4 inch thick 1 teaspoon lemon pepper seasoning** 1/4 teaspoon salt 1/2 cup buttermilk 1 cup all-purpose flour 1/4 cup cooking oil OPTIONAL FOR DIPPING: catsup, creamy Italian dressing, honey-mustard sauce, and horseradish sauce
Place the steak between 2 pieces of plastic wrap and pound to a 1/4 inch thickness. Sprinkle the steak with lemon pepper seasoning and salt. cut the pounded steak into 4X1/2-inch strips.
Dip the steak strips in the buttermilk and dredge in the flour.
In a large skillet over medium heat, heat 2 Tablespoons of the oil. Add half of the steak strips and brown on both sides (3 to 4 minutes total) Transfer the steak strips to paper towels. Place on a warm serving platter. Keep warm. Repeat with the remaining steak strips and oil.
Your family might enjoy being served a selection of sauces for dipping such as catsup, creamy Italian dressing, honey/mustard sauce, and horseradish sauce.
*This recipe is ideal for pork loin strips, too.
**If you don't have lemon pepper seasoning in your spice cupboard, substitute 1 teaspoon crushed dried basil, savory or thyme.
