DOUGHTNUTS WITH SWEET MILK
2 eggs
1 cup sugar
1 cup milk
5 Tablespoons melted shortening
4 cups flour
4 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon salt
Beat eggs. Add sugar slowly to eggs, beating constantly. Stir in milk and melted
shortening. In another bowl, mix together the flour, baking powder, cinnamon,
nutmeg, and salt. Stir flour mixture into egg mixture. Roll dough to 1/4 inch
thick. Cut with 2 inch doughnut cutter. Fry in hot oil at 370 F.- 375 F.
Brown on both sides. Drain on paper towels. Roll in cinnamon sugar. Makes about
3 dozen.
