Bertie's Apple Cookies
I've had this reciepe for years and thought you might like them. Use jonathan apples if you can get them.
1/2 cup Crisco 1 1/2 cups packed brown sugar 1 tsp. baking soda 1 tsp. salt 1 tsp. ground cinnamon 1 tsp. cloves 1/2 tsp. nutmeg 1 egg beaten 1 cup finely chopped apples 1 cup walnuts 1 cup raisins 1/4 cup apple juice or milk 2 cups all purpose flour, divided
for glaze: 1 1/2 cups confectioners sugar 1 tbsp. butter, 1/4 tsp. vanilla 1/8 tsp. salt 2 1/2 tbsp. cream
In large bowl, combine Crisco, sugar, baking soda, spices, and egg. Stir in apples, nuts, raisins, juice or milk and half the flour; mix well and add rest of flour. Drop by heaping tablespoons on greased cookie sheet. Bake at 400 for 10 to 12 minutes.
Combine glaze ingredients and frost cookies while warm. You can put red food color in or any color for different glaze..really good cookies.. joy mo.
