Pot Lickin Peach Dumplins
1 1/2 half cups sugar 1 1/2 cups water 1/4 tsp cinnamon 1/4 tsp nutmeg 3 tbsp butter red food coloring 2 cups flour 2 tsp baking powder 1/2 tsp salt 2/3 cup Crisco 1/2 cup milk 6 whole peaches*, peeled
Combine sugar, water, spices and food coloring; set aside.
sift dry ingredients together and cut in Crisco. Add milk and stir in quickly. Roll out dough on floured board to squares, 1/4-inch thick. Place whole peach in each square(canned peaches can be used) sprinkle each peach with sugar and spices, dot with butter. Fold in corners of dough and pinch together. Arrange dumplings in buttered baking pan; pour syrup over dumplings and sprinkle each with sugar. Bake at 375 for 35 mins. Serve with cream.
*Apples may be substituted.
