ISO: Caramel Cake

Misc.
My grandmother was born and raised in Mississippi, and used to make the best "Caramel Cake" All I can remember about her making it, was that she would burn sugar in a cast iron skillet as part of the cake and the frosting. The cake was very dense and the frosting was a golden color and did not have the consistancy of a regular type icing. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
