SWEET WHITE SAUCE
Serves 4

15 g/2 tbsp cornflour (cornstarch)
300 ml milk
30 ml/2 tbsp caster (superfine) sugar
A few drops of vanilla essence (extract)
A knob of unsalted (sweet) butter (optional)

Blend the cornflour with a little of the milk in a saucepan. Add the remaining milk and the sugar. Bring to the boil and cook for 2 minutes, stirring all the time until thickened and smooth. Stir in the vanilla essence to taste. Beat in the butter, if using.

Was looking for the same thing my mum use to make a white custard and they used to call it blancmange I think. I thought it had no eggs in it. Maybe this is the same for you, but this recipe sounds like it.
