My mom got this John Mozetti recipe in the Parade Mgaazine in about 1957 when we lived in HCester, Ill. I beieve it was one of the St Louis Sunday papers.I have been making it for my family ever since I got married. Sice then on our family page they have added mushroom soup mix which was not in the original. I have wondered how they got it so mixed up. Now I see there are many versions.
It was as follows:
1 LB ground beef chopped onion chopped green bell peppers garlic salt, salt and pepper (to taste) 1 (8 oz) bag thin egg noodles, cooked and drained 1 (10 3/4 oz) can condensed tomato soup 1 (4 oz) can mushroom stems and peices, drained velvetta cheese slices
Fry ground beef, onion, and peppers together. Season with garlic salt, salt, and pepper.
Layer the half the noodles, fried ground beef, and tomato soup (undiluted). Cover with a layer of cheese and then salt lightly with garlic salt and then put a second layer of all on it and then bake .
I wiah I could find the exact recipe from the Parade magazine my mom got it out of. I was 13. She toasted bread with garlic salt on it and also got our first cream cheese jello recipe. She got all of it out of that parade Magazine. We loved it all. If anyone has the original one I woud appreciate it. We lived in Missouri my first 40 years of life excpet for about 9 months in Chester, Ill
