I've seen several hobo bread recipes, but none contain rye flour. Does it bake up a dark color that makes you think it's rye? Anyway, here's a recipe I have not tried that looks pretty standard as far as this type of bread goes. Perhaps you can replace some of the white flour with rye if you want that kind of result.
HOBO BREAD 1 1/2 c. raisins 2 c. hot water 1 tbsp. baking soda 3/4 c. white sugar 3/4 c. brown sugar 1/4 c. oil 3 c. flour 1/2 tsp. salt 2 tsp. vanilla extract 1/2 c. nuts
Soak raisins in water and baking soda overnight. Combine all other ingredients and add raisin mixture. Grease and flour three 1 lb. coffee cans. Put dough into 3 cans and bake in 350 degree oven for 1 hour. Let stand 1 hour and remove from cans. Can use Pam to grease pans without having to flour cans.
