CHOCOLATE FUDGE BROWNIES
1/3 cup shortening 2 squares (1 oz each) unsweetened chocolate* 1 cup sugar 2 eggs 3/4 cup sifted flour 1/2 tsp. baking powder 1/2 tsp. salt 1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional)
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease and flour 8x8x2-inch pan.
Melt together shortening and chocolate.
Beat in sugar and eggs.
Sift together and stir in flour, baking powder and salt. Add nuts, if desired. Spread in prepared pan.
Bake until top has crust, about 30 to 35 minutes. Do not overbake.
*4 tbsp. cocoa and 2 tbsp. shortening may be substituted for the chocolate
