Aggie, this is the recipe for a cookie someone brought to my annual Christmas Cookie Exchange years ago. It's been a favorite of mine ever since. Enjoy!

NORTHWOODS MAPLE NUT COOKIES

6 cups flour
1 1/2 teaspoons cream of tartar
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
2 cups sugar
1 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1 1/2 cups margarine or butter, softened
1 cup oil
5 teaspoons maple flavoring
3 eggs
2 cups chopped pecans, toasted*

Lightly spoon flour into measuring cup; level off. In large bowl, combine flour, cream of tartar, baking powder and salt; set aside.

In large bowl, beat sugar, brown sugar, margarine, oil, maple flavor and eggs until well blended. Gradually stir in flour mixture; mix well, stir in nuts. Cover with plastic wrap; refrigerate at least 1 hour of until firm.

Heat oven to 375 degrees F.

Shape dough into 1-inc balls. Place 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheets. Flatten with bottom of glass dipped in sugar.
