Dear Vinny, Sounds like a Brown Eyed Susan. Here are a few recipes. I hope one of them is the right one. The first two are very similar, and the third is a little different.
BROWN EYED SUSANS
1 cup butter 1/4 cup sugar 1/2 teaspoon almond extract 2 cups all purpose flour 1/2 teaspoon salt 1 cup confectioner's sugar 2 tablespoons cocoa 1 tablespoon hot water 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
Cream butter and 1/4 cup sugar until light and fluffy. Blend in almond extract. Add flour and salt. Mix well.
Shape rounded teaspoonfuls of dough into balls. Place on ungreased cookie sheet. Flatten middle of dough ball with thumb print.
Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until golden brown around edges. Let cool.
TO MAKE FROSTING: Combine confectioners sugar and cocoa. Add water and vanilla and mix well. Place chocolate frosting into thumb print indentation and cool cookies.
Makes 5 dozen
BROWN EYED SUSAN COOKIES
1 cup margarine 3 tbsp. sugar 1 tsp. almond or vanilla extract 2 cups flour 1/2 tsp. salt
Cream margarine; add sugar, almond extract, flour and salt. Roll level tablespoon of mixture into balls. Place on a greased cookie sheet and flatten slightly.
Bake at 400 degrees F for 10-12 minutes.
FROSTING: 2 tbsp. water 1 cup confectioners' sugar 2 tbsp. cocoa 1/2 tsp. vanilla Pecan halves
Combine the sugar and cocoa. Add the water and vanilla. Put 1/2 teaspoon of frosting on each cookie, then top with half a pecan in the center.

BROWN-EYED SUSANS Better Homes and Gardens
Cream together: 3/4 cup butter or margarine, softened 1/2 cup granulated sugar 1 egg 1 tsp vanilla 1/4 tsp salt
Stir in: 1 3/4 cups sifted all-purpose flour
Chill about 1 hour.
Using about 2 tsp dough, shape into 1-inch balls. Place 2-inches apart on ungreased cookie sheet.
Flatten each by pressing a wafer in center from: 1 (7-ounce) package solid chocolate-mint candy wafers
Bake in hot oven (400 degree) for 8 to 10 minutes. Remove immediately from pan to cooling rack.
