Thanks Peg for your quick response. While I am going to try your recipe, because it sounds good, it is not the one I am looking for.

The bread I am looking for is homemade. It has a chewey texture and the "threads" in it are clearly visible, like in some rolls. The outside is a chewier than the outside. It is marketed as an Italian bread but I am not sure that it is. It is not what one traditionally thinks of as an Italian Bread.
