TEA BISCUITS
2 cups flour 3/4 cup sugar 2 tsp. baking powder 1/4 tsp. salt 1/2 cup margarine, softened (or vegetable shortening) 1 cup raisins 2/3 cup milk
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Grease cookie sheets.
Sift together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Cut shortening into the dry ingredients until the size of small peas (as for pie crust).
Add the raisins and milk and mix to form dough. Knead 10 times and pat to 1/2 inch thickness. Cut into 1 1/2 inch circles; place on prepared cookie sheets. May also be dropped by heaping teaspoonfuls onto greased sheets.
Bake at 375 degrees for 10-12 minutes.
TEA BISCUITS (using biscuit mix)
2 cups Bisquick baking mix 1/2 cup milk 1 egg, beaten (save a little for topping) 3 tbsp. sugar 1 tsp. vanilla 1/2 cup raisins
Preheat oven to 450 degrees F.
Mix ingredients together and knead. Flatten and cut with glass or large cookie cutter. Place on ungreased cookie sheet. Brush top with some of the reserved egg.
Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until done.
FOR EITHER RECIPE: To get bite-size tea biscuits, remove cap from empty pill bottle (1 1/2-inch diameter). Invert and use as cookie cutter. Watch closely when baking.
