The recipe I've always used also from the 60's uses jello, Wesson oil and Duncan Hines Cake mix
JELLO POUND CAKE
1 (3 ounce) box jello
3/4 cup water (hot but not boiling)
1 tbsp juice
1 (2-layer size) package cake mix*
3/4 cup oil
4 eggs
Powdered sugar glaze
Dissolve jello in 3/4 cup hot water, stir in juice; set aside.
Combine cake mix, oil and eggs stir until mixed then add dissolved jello and mix well. Pour into well greased tube or bundt pan
Bake at 350 degrees F until cake springs back when lightly touched approximately 45 minutes. (You may have to experiment a little with the oven temp and time.)
When cake is still warm to the touch glaze with powdered sugar mixed with water and flavoring to taste.
*I make this cake in many different flavors. When possible I use the same flavor cake mix as jello for a bolder taste. I am in the process of making 6 as I post this for a graduation reception. I am making lemon, pineapple and coconut/orange (they didn't have the orange cake mix on the shelf so I decided to try it with the coconut cake). I have made many flavors and want to try raspberry with a chocolate mix, preferably white chocolate.
This is a great cake for anything and everyone seems to love it. Good Luck hope this will help.
