Hello! I just found recipelink.com, by needing to ask a question about the instant coffee used in this recipe. My mother used to make it. As much as I was in the kitchen with her, I just never made this. I was afraid to actually use the instant coffee in the frosting. I could not understand how that would work. But, it worked great! And, I wanted to advise how delicious this was...I used Hazelnut flavored instant coffee (by Nescafe) in both the cake and frosting. It made it even better. And, the person who responded gave the powdered sugar as 1/3 cup. When I wrote to Pillsbury they responded with 1/2 cup. Well, it is just a little sweeter.
And, I used regular whipping cream, not the "heavy" whipping cream.
So, even though it has been 9 years since you posted your question, I thought I'd respond.
