I first ate the Rum cake, purchased, for my 21st birthday in 1954. Made by a Detroit restaurant. I originally found the recipe in a Good Housekeeping Magazine article. It also is in my cookbook from 1963. I recently received a note from a friend who had eaten that cake at a potluck 25 years ago and still remembered it! The original cake that I ate had one layer chocolate and one layer yellow, split in half to make four layers total. It is totally decadent and made two of them two weeks ago.
