2 cups soft shortening
3 cups sugar
4 eggs
5 1/2 cups flour
4 teaspoons cream of tarter
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon salt

Mix together shortening, sugar, and eggs. Sift together four, cream of tarter, soda, and salt. Mix the two mixtures to form dough. Roll dough into balls and drop into mixture of four tablespoons white sugar and 4 tablespoons cinnamon (or roll in red or green sugar crystals). Place 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheets. Bake att 400^ F until light brown, about 8-10 minutes. Watch for browning on bottom of cookies. Makes 10 dozen cookies.
