I tried this recipe at Christmas - my husband raved about them, very unusual for him! I left out the orange extract because I don't have it, but they tasted great just the same.

Monster Sugar Cookies
The corner bakery's monster sugar cookies

1 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup butter flavored shortening
1/4 cup neutral vegetable shortening
1/2 cup unsalted butter
2 tablespoons cream cheese
1 egg
2 1/2 teaspoons pure vanilla
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
1/4 teaspoon orange extract or Boyajian Orange Oil
1/4 teaspoon lemon extract or Boyajian Lemon Oil
1 cup confectioner's sugar
3 cups - approximately - unbleached all purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup milk or light cream
coarse sugar for sprinkling

Cream the sugar with the shortening, butter and cream cheese. Blend well, then stir in egg, vanilla, almond, orange and lemon extract.

Fold in confectioner's sugar, flour, baking powder, salt and light cream to make a soft dough.

Turn out onto a lightly floured board and knead gently to firm up dough. Wrap dough and chill 90 minutes or more.

Preheat oven to 350 F. Line two large baking sheets with parchment paper.

Roll out to a thickness of just over 1/4 inch. Cut in circles. Place on baking sheets. Brush cookies with beaten egg white or cream and top with colored sprinkles, chocolate jimmies or coarse sugar.

Bake until lightly golden on edges - 15 to 18 minutes. Cool well on a wire rack.
