What you are describing sounds very much like a napoleon. with powdered sugar on top rather than vanilla icing with chocolate zig-zags. If you can get frozen puff pastry, it is very easy to make. I know the last package of puff pastry I bought had directions for making Napoleons on the package itself. Just cut one sheet into three long stips., bake the strips, cool and layer the strips with either vanilla pudding or pastry cream (vanilla pudding with whipped cream added to lighten it) and dust with powdered sugar. Very easy to do and impresses the heck out of people.
