MARJI: I JUST HAPPENED TO COME ACROSS THIS RECIPE AS I WAS SEARCHING FOR A WHITE WEDDING CAKE RECIPE. THIS IS FROM MY GREAT GRANDMOTHERS 1974 COOKBOOK. I'VE NEVER TRIED IT, BUT HOPE IT HELPS.
ORANGE CANDY CAKE: 1 CUP BUTTER, 5 EGGS, 1 (8 OZ) PKG DATES CUT UP, 1 (1 LB) PKG ORANGE SLICE CANDY CUT UP, 1 (4 OZ) CAN SHREDDED COCONUT, 3/4 C BUTTERMILK, 2 C SUPTAR,1 T. VANILLA, 2 CUPS PECANS CHOPPED, 4 CUPS SIFTED FLOUR, 1/2 tsp. BAKING SODA, 1 tsp. SALT...CREAM BUTTER & SUGAR UNTIL FLUFFY. BEAT IN EGGS ONE AT A TIME. ADD VANILLA. MIX DATES, CANDY, NUTSAND COCONUT WITH 1/4 CUP FLOUR. SIFT REMAINING DRY INGREDIENTS. ALTERNATELY FOLD THEM INTO CREAMED MIXTUREWITH BUTTERMILK. FOLD IN FRUIT-NUT MIXTURE. SPOON INTO A WELL GREASED & FLOURED 10" TUBE PAN. BAKE IN SLOW OVEN FOR 2 1/2 HRS AT 300 DEGREES. HOPE THIS HELPS. THIS IS MY FIRST TIME ON THE INTERNET, HOPE YOU CAN UNDERSTAND THIS RECIPE!
