I don't know how traditional this is but I love it! Very easy and tasty. Keeps best, believe it or not, wrapped losely in a kitchen towel, cut side down. From "Baking with Julia"

4 cups flour
1 tsp baking soda
1 1/2 tsp salt
2 cups buttermilk

Preheat overn to 375, grease bottom of glass pie plate. Mix dry ingredients in bowl. Make well in center, add buttermilk and stir until well mixed. Form dough into a ball - it'll be a bit sticky - and place on greased pie plate. Cut an "X" in top if desired. Bake for 50 minutes.

Don't know if it's like your Grandma's but hope you like it.
