Don't know if this also qualifies as a post on the new frugal board...but here goes...made some bone in pork shoulder ribs that I got on ad for .98/lb (!) First thing in the am (7 or so) threw the whole pkg. in (approx 5lbs)sliced some onions, put in a touch of water with some liquid smoke in it and put it on low all day. Came home at 4, (by this time they were falling apart)cooled them, pulled them apart in chunks, the put the chunks in an oven proof pot, poured half a bottle of bbq sauce (I used Chris and Pitts and Hunts) some more liquid smoke, some brown sugar. Put it in the oven on 325 for about 1 1/2 hrs (really til I was ready and the kids too) made some cole slaw, sliced up some potatoes into steak fries, oven roasted those at 500 (with only Pam and a drizzle of oil) served the pork on some buns that I got at the day old store. Figured I'd have plenty for another night (since I work some nights. Between the cheap pork (which was about $5 for the whole pkg.) the homemade slaw, my own potatoes, my own fries...the dinner was about $6. Divide that in half (since I'll easily get another night out of it, that's what...3.00) I have 5 in my family...not bad on the wallet and terrific on the taste buds! |
